Salmonella outbreak update

Public Health Scotland (PHS) is working with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), food safety agencies in the UK and other partners to investigate an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis.
While work to identify the exact source of the outbreak is ongoing, the latest investigations indicate a link to eggs imported to the UK from abroad.
The symptoms caused by Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) are commonly referred to as food poisoning as eating contaminated food is the most common reason for infection.
Symptoms of salmonellosis typically start around one to three days after exposure and may include:
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain
- nausea
- vomiting
Most people will recover within a few days without treatment.
Anyone who is concerned about symptoms should contact their GP or out of hours service in the first instance.
