Scottish Health and Inequalities Impact Assessment Network (SHIIAN)

The Scottish Health and Inequalities Impact Assessment Network (SHIIAN) has been running since 2001.
It is open to anyone:
- working, or planning to work, on Health Impact Assessment (HIA) or Health in All Policies (HiAP) in Scotland and other countries
- with an interest in HIA and HiAP, including those with no experience of these approaches who would like to learn more
SHIIAN gives practitioners the opportunity to:
- hear about examples of HIA and HiAP
- learn from one another
- share and develop best practice
The network aims to increase the use and quality of HIA and consideration of health within Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) as part of a HiAP approach in Scotland.
Network activities
These include:
- presentations from speakers
- provision of peer support
- sharing of evidence and good practice
- news and updates
- lunchtime learning sessions
- contribution to the production of HIA and HiAP resources
- advocacy for and promotion of the use of HIA and HiAP in Scotland
- promotion of Capital Investment Health Impact Assessment (CHIA) and health within IIA
- opportunities to link HIA and HiAP with other public health approaches
Network members
Network members come from a broad range of sectors, including:
- NHS
- local government
- national government
- third sector
- private sector
- academia
